Investors in People (IIP) is a national quality standard which sets a level of good practice for improving an organisation's performance through its people.
Riverside Automation committed to applying the standard in March 1999 and achieved formal recognition in February 2000.
Why did we do it?We were aware of the poor record of other SMEs (small and medium sized enterprises) in our sector in the area of staff training and development. We chose to pursue IIP to strengthen and expand our skills base by bringing UK industry best practice into our workplace.
What has it done for us?IIP has provided us with guidelines for linking the company’s business plan to the goals and targets for the development of each individual in the organisation. This has led to improved profitability and has improved the focus of the working environment for our staff. It has become part of the culture of our organisation.
How did we achieve IIP recognition?IIP has meant change. The process has been developed internally and has involved everyone in its application. We have had encouragement and guidance from South Yorkshire Business Link.
Would we recommend IIP to others?IIP has helped us introduce best practice to the training and development of our staff. We would recommend it to others, provided they are prepared to change.
